HK - Lantau Island

12 September

sunny 32 °C

Hello All!

Had a rather good day today taking a trip to one of the islands surrounding Hong Kong. Set off on the underground to Lantau Island, where we then caught a bus for the 'ride' of our lives, the round was very bendy and steep over the mountains!! Arrived (in one piece!) at the biggest outdoor bronze buddha in the world (not a claim that will have many rivals i guess!!! haha). Had a look around and then a vegetarian lunch in the nearby monastry. After this we set off on another bus to the beach - had a bit of a paddle and took some more photos. We then got the bus back to another port and took a ferry to the main HK isalnd.

Just had a sandwich for tea (as there arent alot of restaurants round here).

Not sure what we're doing tomorrow, its been scorching again today.

Hi, sounds like a good adventure, you seem to have the knack of getting some hair raising rides. I thought there were loads of restaurants in HK or are you not in the tourist section? Phil said the match last night was boring. They asked if he wanted to steward the match in Bulgaria! Get this though - you leave Man airport about 8am and return at 4am next morning, you pay for your own flight and claim it back afterwards, you are paid for 20hours (but he didn't know how much per hour) and you buy all your own food! Needless to say there were not many takers. You'll be pleased to know you're in good company - Cherie Blair has been buying pearls in China! Weather here is lovely today, we've been having some nice warm days while you've been away. See you soon, love Sue

Hi Guys -- Glad to see that Sue has braved the internet -- The bit about Cherie Blair is relevant -- it was all about if she would pay VAT or not -- U.K. citizens returning from a non-EU country have a customs allowance of: 200 cigarettes; 50 cigars; 250 grams of smoking tobacco; 2 liters of still table wine; 1 liter of spirits or strong liqueurs (over 22% volume) or 2 liters of fortified wine, sparkling wine or other liqueurs; 60cc (ml) perfume; 250cc (ml) of toilet water; and £145 worth of all other goods, including gifts and souvenirs. People under 17 cannot have the tobacco or alcohol allowance. If you are just a bit over the limit, I would not worry. Did you buy a small Buddha ? Speak to you soon G in Par

Okay guys.... If you want me to come back to Bolton, then I need to know what dates (days) you will be going back to York. Otherwise we'll have to pay a fortune for train tickets or won't be arriving until midnight. Can you let me know please so I can arrange something?

Thanks,
Love Natalie
